In the last three years Hillingdon Councillors have spent £2,260,000 of tax-payers money on refurbishment of their own offices - the sixth highest council expenditure nationwide during this period - according to a recent damning report by the BBC.
The report of Hillingdon Council's expenses include £75,000 on lavatory refurbishment and £30,000 for reupholstering of chairs in the council chambers - apparently on "Health and safety" grounds - all during a period of recession and after losing £15.7m in the recent Icesave fiasco.
Whilst Hillingdon councillors sit in their comfy new chairs, hundreds of council employees face redundancies and the Howletts care centre for disabled children in South Ruislip faces closure in cost cutting measures.
