Hillingdon Liberal Democrats would like to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who gave us their support in the London elections on May 1st.

Our London Assembly candidate, Nigel Bakhai, managed a good result in the face of the media obsession with 'Ken and Boris show' and the resulting city-wide swing to the Conservatives which brought an end to Ken Livingstone's tenure in City Hall. Although we were, of course, disappointed not to win, there was a lot of goodwill locally towards Nigel and our Mayoral candidate, Brian Paddick, which we hope to build on in future elections.

We fought the election on local issues, and received a lot of positive feedback about our campaigns to save the Hillingdon School of Gymnastics and get a Night Bus for Ruislip. We will, of course, continue to work hard on these and other campaigns over the coming months and, as always, will keep you informed of our progress in future issues of Focus.
