Hillingdon Liberal Democrats

There were three by-elections in Hillingdon Borough during 2008.

Two of them followed the sad death of long serving councillors. In Townfield, Labour's Norman Nunn-Price died and in West Ruisilp Solveig Stone lost her battle with cancer.

The situation in Northwood was different. Conservative Councillor Ian Oakley was arrested and charged with criminal harrassment and criminal damage against members of the Liberal Democrats in Watford. He had planned to become a Tory MP there but was forced to step aside. When he was convicted of his crimes, the resulting sentence meant that he was disqualified as a councillor.

In each of the by-elections, the Liberal Democrats have spoken up for ordinary residents and held our Conservative-run Council to account.

Thank you for your continuing support.

With very best wishes for 2009 from all of the Hillingdon Liberal Democrat team.

Northwood By-election - Liberal Democrats hold Tories to account

Sun 14th Dec 2008

It is a shame that the bitterly cold weather meant that less than a quarter of Northwood's residents turned out to vote in the by-election caused by the criminal activity of the former Conservative councillor

Cox: Queen's Speech "will do little to help people in Hillingdon cope with the recession"

The world has certainly been turned on its head in the last few months. Major UK banks have effectively been nationalised, the government break all its fiscal rules to stimulate the economy, Police use terrorist laws to arrest a leading MP and a shocking slaughter occurs in Mumbai.
