LibDems launch petition to save Hillingdon's Home Library Service.5.08.34pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 26th Jul 2006
Hillingdon's LibDems have launched a petition to save a highly commended service. The Conservatives want to cut three of the four part time staff who run the Home Library Service and call for volunteers instead - a move almost certain to drastically cut the level of service to the expense of the most vulnerable people in the Borough. The Home Library Service lends hard copy books (in both ordinary and large print) and talking books to over 150 house-bound individuals and over 50 sheltered accommodation sites across the whole Borough. Cuts to the Home Library Service will only save about £40,000 per annum (compare that with the estimated cost of over £200,000 for a new London Borough of Hillingdon logo!) From January to May 2005, the Home Library Service issued and renewed just over 23,000 items - about the same as Ickenham Library and much more than many small libraries such as Harefield. You can sign the petition to save this much appreciated service on-line by choosing "Sign our Petition" from the menu on the left of this web page. Please sign by Monday 31st July or as soon as possible after that date; we can then present it to Cabinet before it is too late. Related Link:Petition to save Hillingdon's Home Library Service.
