What have the young and working poor done to deserve this?

tim_farron_signs.jpgThe poorest families in our borough were dealt a severe blow earlier this week when the Welfare Reform and Work Bill was passed through parliament which will put those poorest families at a disadvantage and make it even harder for people from disadvantaged backgrounds to get on in life.

All Liberal Democrat, SNP and 48 Labour MP’s voted against the bill in its entirety, however most Labour MP’s abstained from a vote on the bill, indicating that they backed the Labour leadership to allow the cuts to go through.

Tim Farron, newly elected Liberal Democrat leader, said: “The Liberal Democrats will stand up for families, whether they are hard-working or just desperate to be hard-working. We will not let the Conservatives through choice, or the Labour Party through their silence, to unpick our welfare system.”
