Environment

Liberal Democrats are very conscious that the sustainability of our planet remains under threat. We all see every day in the pollution of our rivers and land. We know that air quality is under threat and that consumption of fossil fuels is causing global warming. Hillingdon has taken some steps to reduce its impact on the environment. Liberal Democrats would wish to continue this journey and if possible accelerate it.

Liberal Democrats will

  • Introduce a carbon budget alongside the financial budget, with clear annual emission reduction targets
  • Cut energy use by upgrading the insulation of council buildings, efficient lighting and on-site solar power where possible
  • Protect the green spaces with which the borough is blessed by more tree planting, increasing biodiversity and targeting action at pollution hotspots
  • Support low carbon travel choices  by increasing electric vehicle charging points and secure cycle parking
  • Encourage the voluntary groups that clean up our local environment by litter-picking and caring for open spaces and seek to establish more groups in all parts of the borough
