Hillingdon Liberal Democrats Manifesto: Local Elections 2026
Hillingdon is an attractive area with more pleasant open spaces than most London Boroughs and is home to diverse communities. But many years of Conservative rule have left our council in a financial mess, saddling local tax payers with up to £150million extra debt. The top priority must be to clean up this mess.
Liberal Democrats will be prudent with the public purse and recognise that the only way to solve this problem is to harness the talents of local people, voluntary groups and businesses working together to create communities we can be proud of. We will create local forums in the different parts of the Borough with opportunities for participation and with budgets to revitalise their areas.
It is vital to listen to what local residents say and we aim to make the council more responsive whether in cleaning up litter, repairing pot-holes or working with the local police to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. This also applies to major developments and Liberal Democrats will insist on replacing the Outdoor Activities Centre lost to HS2 and the restoration of the landscape damaged by this badly managed project. We also oppose the destruction of our villages for Heathrow’s expansion.
The last decade of Conservative and Labour rule from Whitehall has left the country with a legacy of poor economic progress, a cost of living crisis and damaged government services as seen in the NHS waiting lists. Neither party can be trusted to provide a solution. Reform and the Greens can only offer over simplistic solutions which will create discord and only serve to fuel public anger in the longer term.
