Planning
Hillingdon is an attractive borough made up of a number of separate villages each with its own character. Liberal Democrats believe that the first responsibility of the Council must be to preserve for future generations those attractive features of the borough.
- Liberal Democrats will do everything possible to preserve the borough's green belt and open spaces and its culture heritage such as the character of the villages and their historic buildings.
It is expected that the population of the borough will continue to grow. This will inevitably require more development to provide housing, employment opportunities and facilities for residents.
- Liberal Democrats will fight to maintain the green belt and seek to make the best use of brownfield sites for housing and industrial developments
- Liberal Democrats will make it a high priority to promote the vitality and viability of both the larger and smaller shopping areas (see the section on High Streets)
- Liberal Democrats will conserve the borough's heritage assets
- Liberal Democrats will encourage developers to consult with local residents at an early stage, even before submitting applications for planning permission.
- Liberal Democrats will use all the means at their disposal to hold the Water Utilities responsible for the preservation and purity of the canal and river networks of the borough.
- Liberal Democrats believe that developers of major sites have a responsibility to the community to ensure that their developments provide for the ancillary responsibilities that flow from that development such school places, roads or health facilities.
