Now the Government express "Serious concerns" over Hillingdon Council's finances

Lib Dem campaigner Tom Cottew has said the news is alarming but has not come as a surprise. Tom had previously said "The Council’s financial planning appears to have been built on foundations of sand. We are all going to pay very dearly for the resulting subsidence, especially pensioners and the less well-off.”  

Now the Government has issued a "Best Value Notice" in which the Council is told that the Government has "Serious concerns about financial management" and records that "there is a lack of challenge, clarity of strategic direction and organisational grip".
